With Flag Day a little over a week away our book recommendations, and our soon to be posted weekly blog, will be about the American flag. We’ll start off this week with two books about the flag.
Betsy Ross by Alexandra Wallner is written for grades K – 3 with lots of illustrations depicting life in the 18th century. Wallner describes Ross’ childhood, marriages, upholstery business, suggestion to General Washington to use a star with five points rather than six, sewing of the flag, and family and business concerns. The book ends with diagrams and directions for folding and cutting paper to make a five-pointed star.
The American Flag by Elaine Landau is for elementary school aged readers. It’s full of facts and stories about the American flag and contains many illustrations and pictures. This is a good reference book for any youngsters looking for information about the flag. A very good read.
