Chapter Book Recommendations – 05/26/11

Posted on: Thursday, May 26th, 2011

Continuing with our suggestions for chapter books we offer the following two suggestions.

Amelia’s School Survival Guide (Amelia’s Notebook) by Marissa Moss will appeal mostly to girls in the 9 – 12 age range.  It’s written like a handwritten notebook, on lined paper, with illustrations that look like they were drawn by a kid.  After reading the book, ask your child: “What were two of your favorite suggestions that Amelia made in order to survive school?”  You can also ask her to: “Get creative and make your own list!”

Stink the Incredible Shrinking Kid by Megan McDonald.  In yesterdays book recommendations (Book Recommendation 05/25/11) we recommended a Judy Moody book.  Well, Stink is Judy Moody’s little brother and little is the operative word.  This book is funny and full of puns and will appeal mostly to boys in grades 2 – 4 but can be a read aloud book for younger children.  After reading the book, ask your child “Stink gave the shredded neut’s skin a place of honor next to his gold coin.  Whose image was on the gold dollar?  “After your child gives you the answer, ask him to do a little research and find out 2 facts about the person on the coin.”
