As our last two blogs have stated, it’s not too late for your kids to catch up on their summer reading. Since school is just around the corner this week’s book recommendations have a “Back to School” theme.
Miss Nelson Is Missing! by Harry Allard. A teacher by the name of Miss Nelson has a class that misbehaves all the time. One day she decides not to come to school. When a substitute teacher, Miss Viola Swamp takes over the classroom they realize that they miss Miss Nelson! The kids then decide to find Miss Nelson so that they can get rid of Miss Swamp. It’s a fun read that teaches a good moral lesson.
Miss Nelson Is Back by Harry G. Allard Jr is a book for kids in K – 3. Miss Nelson, the teacher in room 207, will be out of school for a week. The kids are concerned that they’ll end up with a terrible substitute but, instead, get the principal who is a bore. The kids decide that it’s up to them to take action. The rest of the story is a very cute spoof.
My Teacher Sleeps in School by Leatie Weiss is another book for the younger kids. Mrs. Marsh’s kindergarten class thinks that their teach lives in school. This is a misconception that some five year olds have. To change their thinking, Mrs. Marsh plans a field trip to teach the kids that she’s a person, just like them.
Note: The books mentioned in this blog and all of our blogs can usually be found in your school library, your local library, a local book store or on-line. We provide links to the books on Amazon so you can read reviews and summaries to learn more about them.
