Flag Day Book Recommendations – 06/10/11

Posted on: Friday, June 10th, 2011

These are our final two Flag recommendations for this week.  This weekend is a good time to get your flags ready to put out on Tuesday.  If you need some new ones take your child shopping and let him or her help you select the new flags.  The second recommendation takes Flag Day a step further.

Red, White, and Blue (All Aboard Reading) by John Herman is written for readers in grades 1 – 3.   It’s an illustrated book that describes how the American flag came into being, how it has changed over the years, and its importance as the symbol of our country.

The Nifty Fifty State Flags by Paul Beatrice and Paul Rodhe.  Rather than the American flag, this selection contains is about each of the state flags and contains a 16-page booklet, 50 cards, a map of the USA, and a pad with colored paper so kids can design their own flag.  Each card has a state flag on one side and a lot of detailed information on the other.  A good family activity.
