Some interesting facts to tell your kids about the month of March.

Posted on: Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

March has arrived and we are officially just a few weeks away from the first day of spring, March 20th.  So in eager anticipation of this I decided to do a little research and find out what else we celebrate during this month.

I learned some really interesting things.  Did you know that:

  • Dr. Seuss was born on March 2.
  • One of my favorite author’s, Dav Pilkey, celebrates his birthday on March 5th
  • On March 6th, 1912, Oreo cookies were sold for the first time in 1912.
  • Barbie’s birthday is March 9.  She was “born” in 1959
  • The first paper money in the US was issued on March 12, 1862
  • The planet Uranus was discovered on  March 13, 1781
  • Albert Einstein was born on  March 14, 1879
  • The United States purchased Alaska from Russia on March 30, 1867
